The Linel Set Pawm

The Fantasy Gouache Linel Set
The Fantasy Set, designed with artist Pawm, invites you to create an abstract work using Linel extra-fine gouache.Linel gouache is a blend of pigments and natural gum arabic, derived from acacia. It can be used for both opacity and transparency diluted with water, making it ideal for outdoor painting.
The artist has selected six shades for this set: Tyrian Pink, Turquoise Blue, Acacia Green, Naples Yellow, Payne Grey and Super White. An ideal palette for creating magical landscapes in the Pawm style.

Pawm's step-by-step tutorial

Pawm
Self-taught, Pawm discovered painting at the age of 18, first in shades of black and white, then in color. After acrylics, watercolors and oils, Pawm turned to gouache, with which she can fully express herself. Her work is inspired by pop culture, video games, TV series and films. In 2021, Pawm launched herself on Twitch, sharing her video game lives as well as her art. That same year, thanks to the aesthetics of Studios Ghibli, Pawm tries its hand at landscape, studying live with its community.
Pawm's ambition is to motivate its audience to carry out an artistic activity during the week, with concepts such as Fiak'art: 2 weeks to produce a work, all productions are seen live, and a new theme is chosen. In May 2022, Pawm is also launching Artleague.fr, a site that enables artists present on Twitch to showcase their work and have an online store.
Step-by-step Set Fantasy

Step 1: Reference research
I start by looking for inspiration through various sources such as the NASA website, observatories, and Pinterest. I also draw a lot of ideas from “the imagination” by playing video games, watching series or films. These references allow me to base my work on real elements, while giving me the freedom to incorporate colors and effects that don't exist in reality, to create a world that's both plausible and fantastic.

Step 2: Material preparation
Before I start painting my planets or space elements, I carefully prepare my materials: brushes and palette. I use a large quantity of material (pigment + water) to achieve the effect I prefer, where the gouache bonds naturally with the paper, creating soft, organic transitions.

Step 3: Base application
I start by applying the base colors, ensuring that the gouache remains very damp. This keeps the colors bright and intense, while ensuring good fluidity and transitions between them.

Step 4: Adding details
Once the base is almost dry (but still slightly damp), I move on to adding details with a small brush. This step is crucial for adding texture and depth to the work, refining contours and adding finer elements.

Step 5: Finishing with coloured pencil
To add even more contrast and finesse, I like to finish my paintings with touches of colored pencil. This underlines certain details and adds accents that strengthen the work as a whole.

DID YOU KNOW?
The painter Henri Matisse, master and leader of Fauvism, adulated Linel extra-fine gouache. He never forgot to praise it in each of his interviews, and he also played an active part, in collaboration with the chemists and researchers Lefranc Bourgeois, in the creation of Linel fixed violet.
