Here, artist Alexandre Benjamin Navet shows us how to use nuances to enhance the colour of a subject, as well as hollows and volumes.

This technique has the particularity of using mixed media: painting with several materials (in this case, Indian ink and gouache). Alexandre Benjamin uses coloured ink to draw the subject with a brush and sketch out the masses of colour.

He then applies gouache on top to emphasise the volumes, reveal the shape of his object and create contrasts. He also likes to add hatching to reinforce the effect of volume and add relief.
